The following is a
Message from By IlyaSomina Professor of Law at GeorgeMasonUniversity regarding his upcoming
presentation on Friday, Feb 6, 2015, at the University of Florida.
His research focuses on constitutional law, property law, and popular political
participation. He is the author of "The Grasping Hand: Kelo
v. City of New London
and the Limits of Eminent Domain" (forthcoming) and "Democracy and
Political Ignorance: Why Smaller Government is Smarter."
I am honored
to be on the same panel with Scott Bullock of the Institute for Justice, who
was one of two lawyers representing the property owners in Kelo
throughout the case, and argued it before the Supreme Court. Our panel will run
from 9:15 to 10:30 AM. Other participants in the symposium include leading
eminent domain scholars, such as Robert Hockett
(Cornell), Alexandra Klass (University
of Minnesota), and conference
organizer Richard Allen Wolf (Florida),
among others.
A complete
schedule of the symposium, which I believe is open to the public as well as University of Florida faculty and students, is
available here.
